It comes back to me time and again, how quickly the calendar cycles through days, weeks and months. It is true that you must enjoy every minute as you have it, but we all spend many hours eagerly anticipating future events, you can’t help it. While working towards the 2013 Guild Show, we all happily indulged in thinking about all the things we hoped to accomplish and all the people we looked forward to seeing. Its now been and gone
and was it everything we hoped for? If I’d had a lot more money and a lot more time, it could have been, but living in reality, it was GREAT!!
Classes started up on Thursday and wrapped up Friday afternoon with many happy students and one cake hunt along the new and colorfully patterned carpets of the grand concourse…one students’ class project had rolled off her workboard in a failed attempt at freedom!
Friday evening brought the Desserts and Demonstrations event which is the new Gathering of the Guild. Only in its second year it proved again, to be
a prime attraction of the weekend. Ten artists and dealers gathered to share techniques that they have developed in the process of doing their work. From Bob Hurd’s demonstration of how to carve a barely twist table leg, to Dick Hardy showing how to photograph your miniatures, to Barbara Wilson demonstrating some
of her techniques in painting, dealers and shoppers alike were fascinated to be able to observe and even try them out, while also being able to have a conversation with friends and enjoy a drink and some luscious desserts.
The salesroom doors opened Saturday morning and the shopping was fast and furious. Dealers from across the country, and halfway around the world, were there with many interesting and unique items.
Other events over the weekend included a trip to see the Broadway hit, Motown-The Musical, a shopping excursion to the garment district in New York City, fabulous auctions and special children’s events on Sunday. Needless to say, a great time was had by all.
