INSTRUCTOR: Lynette Barker, Artisan
PROJECT: Sculpting a Bowl/Vase 101 on a Mini Wheel, air dry clay

LENGTH OF CLASS: 3 hours

DATE AND TIME:
This class is offered twice.
Choose March 7, 2 pm to 5 pm ET or March 9, 2 pm to 5 pm ET

Lynette will teach you the basic skills needed to sculpt clay on a mini wheel. For this class, she will use air-dry clay. No kiln is needed. She uses a mini wheel, and recommends them for students.

The project for this class will be a large (relatively speaking) mixing/serving bowl. Simple, smooth and tiny. The scale will be 1:12, so the finished item will be about 1 inch tall. No tiny pieces are involved. Variation of style is encouraged.

Lynette will implement a sculpting method that does not use very much water, unlike standard throwing. This allows for more precise lines and thin edges on your finished projects. Using less water also speeds drying time and allows for possible painting and sealing of the project within the class time. It is expected that students will complete the project within the class time of 3 hours. There will be enough clay for at least one bowl, and perhaps more.

Lynette sculpts teapots, (that really pour tea!) pitchers with delicate spouts and curlicue handles, many elegant shapes of vases, platters and bowls, and unique sculptures. Later classes will cover more complex subjects, finishes and styles.

Materials supplied for class by the instructor will include: instructions, all tools needed and a small amount of air-dry clay to complete the current project. Students must have and use their own mini wheel.

Optional: mini pottery wheel - purchased by instructor and shipped to student.

Maximum Number of Students: 10

SKILL LEVEL: All skill levels welcome

CLASS FEE: $70

GUILD ADMINISTRATIVE FEE: $14 members / $24 non-members

MATERIALS FEE: $20

Optional MATERIALS FEE: $35 for a mini pottery wheel purchased by instructor and shipped to student. To be arranged with Lynette.

Materials fee includes shipping within the United States. International students will be charged according to the amount necessary to ship items to their country and will be charged separately. International students should make arrangements with the instructor as soon as possible after registration.

This class is offered twice. You may register for either session by selecting the appropriate button below

INSTRUCTOR: Esther Marker, Artisan
PROJECT: Paint and Wire a Dual Bulb Tiffany Style Lamp - Beyond the Basics

LENGTH OF CLASS: Videos to watch at your own speed followed by a Question and Answer session on March 16 at 11:00 am ET

DATE AND TIME: Project video will be released on March 9.
One week later, March 16 there will be a Q&A for 1 to 2 hours beginning at 11:00 am ET

Embark on a creative journey with Esther as she guides you in acquiring the skills to both paint and wire your very own 1/12th scale Tiffany style lamp with two bulbs.

This course will cover a range of techniques, starting from fundamental principles and progressing towards more advanced methods. The class aims to elevate the painting skills of participants, aligning them more closely with the iconic pieces of Tiffany. In Tiffany's creations, each glass section is characterized by not just a single color but by a rich array of variations in shade, tone, and overall effect. Participants will gain insights into creating subtle gradients, marbled effects, and utilizing the color white to enhance the visual appeal of their lamps.

Esther will demonstrate various ways to finish the lamp base, providing students with the opportunity to choose their preferred method while also exposing them to a variety of techniques that can be applied to future projects. In addition, students will learn a hassle-free, solder-free technique for wiring a table lamp with two bulbs.

The class is exclusively in video format, and participants will likely receive access to the content before the scheduled date. They are encouraged to watch the video and take note of any questions that may arise. A document outlining essential and optional materials for purchase will be provided. Esther will personally dispatch lamp parts and a practice piece to each participant. However, participants are responsible for acquiring paints and other materials locally, as shipping regulations prohibit the inclusion of liquids in the package.

On the scheduled discussion day, (March 16), participants will engage in a Q&A session, providing them with the opportunity to ask questions, seek further clarification on techniques, and showcase any previously completed lamps they have worked on.

Dimensions: The lamp is 2 1/2 inches (about 6.5 cm) tall.
Shade diameter is 1 3/4 inch (4.5 cm),
Shade thickness is 0.7 mm (less than 1/32 of an inch)

Maximum Number of Students: 15

SKILL LEVEL: All skill levels welcome

CLASS FEE: $99

GUILD ADMINISTRATIVE FEE: $19.80 members / $29.80 non-members

MATERIALS FEE:$45

Materials fee is inclusive of shipping worldwide, and includes the lamp and practice piece. Students will need to provide additional materials as stated in the description above. Instructor will make every effort to ensure that materials arrive in time, and expects them to be available before class, but can't guarantee this through International mailing. However, students will have the videos in advance and will have the opportunity to ask questions during the session.

INSTRUCTOR: Tori West, Fellow
PROJECT: Creative Paperclay Masterclass III, Molds, Forms and Beyond

LENGTH OF CLASS: 90 minutes of video. One week later there will be a Q&A for 90 minutes.

DATE AND TIME: Video will be released on March 3.
Q&A will be March 9 from 6:00-7:30 pm ET

Creative Paperclay can be used in a wide variety of mold materials with great results, and the material can also be used to create molds. The medium also lends itself to being draped or sculpted over forms, and can also be used as forms. This versatility offers great advantages in creating all types of miniatures. Some of the mold making material Tori has used in her more than 20 years of working with Creative Paperclay includes wax, modeling clay, carving wax, polymer clay, silicone, latex, Friendly Plastic, PenScore, foam and sand. The list of materials she has used for forms and armatures would be equally extensive if not more so.

Students will receive a comprehensive instructional video demonstrating the molding and forming methods discussed above. They will learn how to use molds, forms and combinations of those to create fantasy structures, architectural trim, hollow objects and more - including Tori's "signature" staircases used on her fantasy pieces. Just a few of the items using these techniques are shown here.

After students have had the chance to view the video during the week they will have the opportunity to ask questions at the Q&A session.

Maximum Number of Students: 15

SKILL LEVEL: All skill levels welcome

CLASS FEE: $32

GUILD ADMINISTRATIVE FEE: $6.40 members / $16.40 non-members

MATERIALS FEE: There is no materials fee for this class
