One of the objectives of the Guild is to recognize and honor talented artisans who work in miniature. It is part of our mission to promote miniatures as an art form. Many lovers of miniatures are content to be collectors and to dabble creatively in a variety of media, but some find a calling in one particular area and spend considerable time honing their skills. People that interested and dedicated deserve recognition for their efforts.

IGMA honors that dedication with two levels of recognition-Artisan and Fellow. Anyone who has been a member of the Guild for at least a year, may apply to become an Artisan member. Those who have been Artisan members for at least two years prior to application, may apply to become a Fellow member. Evaluations take place once a year and are conducted ‘blind’, meaning each submission is evaluated solely on its own merits

Artisan and Fellow recognition is a level of membership within the Guild and any person who has received that honor is welcome and in fact, encouraged to promote themselves as such, as long as they continue to be a member of IGMA. Their work has demonstrated a mastery in their area of expertise and they are well deserving of the accolades.

I’m wondering if it might be possible to post the names of past members who were Artisans or Fellows as a way of identifying vintage pieces that may be unfamiliar to some of today’s collectors. I recently catalogued the collection of former Guild member and officer Jane Ober for the Rhoads auction earlier this month and encountered numerous painted pieces signed ASB but could find no reference to who this artist might be and I felt badly both for the consignor and bidders because I could not identify this artist. Next to unsigned work, unfamiliar initials are a major frustration in my work. Anyone know who this person might be?
