COURSE: Egg Tempera Painting
PROJECT: Amish Girl with Bunny
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This Amish Girl with Bunny painting is a tiny window into the simple life. Growing up surrounded by Amish culture has deepened the instructor’s appreciation for their connection to family and nature. Children and animals are ever present on the Amish farms. A beautiful reminder of simple pleasures.
Egg tempera painting is recognized as the second oldest medium, after encaustic. In the Amish tradition of homemade, students will be making their own traditional gesso and paint in this class. Students will prepare thin boards with traditional hide glue, homemade gesso, and an initial drawing of the Girl with Bunny before detailed painting begins. They will learn how to mix their own egg tempera paint; as well as learn some background on the rich tradition of egg tempera. The final painting will be 1" x 1 ½". Students will have the option of purchasing a wooden frame for their completed piece.
TIME:
24 hours. Completion is likely.

SKILL LEVEL:
Intermediate. This is a good class for students with some painting and drawing experience. It is not a complicated painting, but feeling comfortable with a paintbrush will go a long way in preventing frustration with the new egg tempera technique.
