COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Welcome to the Castine Chocolate Shop, where the delightful smell of rich cocoa envelops you as you walk through the door. The eye is tantalized by tiers of exquisite chocolate treats, your taste buds anticipate the….oh, I guess we’d better talk about the class…

This is going to be really fun! We’re going to fill a beautiful Victorian style shop display with all sorts of chocolates, candies, and petite pastries! Just some of the delicious delights that students will be making include: molded chocolates, chocolate mice (these are really cute, don’t laugh), chocolate-covered strawberries, raspberries and raspberry pastries, lollipops, meringues, and tiny little cakes topped with roses and detailed designs. Students can also decide what kinds of sweets to put in the display. There will be clay in a variety of colors so students can have fun with their own designs and make their shop display their very own creation!

Students will have the opportunity to learn the following techniques: making silicone molds, texturing and coloring clay for realistic results, clay color mixing and color theory, pipe “icing” and “meringue” through a special icing tip, build a lollipop display, practice the Skinner Shade Technique as well as a short version of this technique, Make candy boxes and cellophane candy bags, and observe how to use Paintshop Pro to design graphics for use in making candy boxes and other food containers

24 hours. Completion is likely.

SKILL LEVEL:

Beginner. However, students should have very good hand/eye coordination since they will be working on very small items.

MATERIALS FEE:

$122 The shop display used in the prototype is a kit from Lisa’s Little Things and is included in this fee. Students may either purchase one and put it together before class, or use a shop display of their own choosing. There will be a reduction in the fee if students use their own display.
