French Knot “Hooked” Rug
The original rug is dated circa 1830 and is in the collection of Winterthur Museum in Delaware. It is a hooked rug that was done with wool fibers on a burlap foundation. It has sculptured edges which is a feature not usually found on hooked rugs--most being square, round, or rectangular. The original rug is in excellent condition with beautifully maintained color. Unfortunately, there is no other information as to where it was created or the identity of the maker.
The class rug is done using French Knots which give a very good scale “hooked” rug look. The focus of the class will be to learn and/or perfect the French Knot stitch so that they are uniform in size. There will also be discussion on design, color, and resources for materials. All class materials will be provided.
12 hours. While completion is unlikely, students will go home with all the techniques and materials to finish on their own.
