Mark Murphy Chair

Hanging Lamp And Lanterns In The Living Room

Jim Pounder, IGMA Artisan

Materials fee:  $40

Basic Soldering--the class is essentially a class in teaching the principles of silver soldering using a small butane torch. The class will be a study in the common denominators
in all soldering and will include comparisons between soft soldering and silver soldering.

The class projects are a Greene and Greene-style Arts and Crafts large hanging lamp and two matching small Greene and Greene, Arts and Crafts hanging lanterns.

Both are in the living room of the Gamble House. Students will silver solder elements of lamp frames into predetermined dimensions.

Students will apply colored “stained glass” elements to pre-cast polyurethane lampshades, and then install electric lights and assemble the elements for finished projects. Students will receive instructions on patina application to achieve a woodgrain effect.

All materials and tools will be supplied by the instructor. Soldering kits can be purchased after the class.
